THE PROBLEM

The bathroom-shelf graveyard.

You know the one. Three shampoos that looked promising on TikTok. A โ‚ฌ40 mask someone swore by. Two products from a clean-beauty brand that smelled great and did absolutely nothing.

The truth is, every hair reacts differently. To your scalp, your tap water, the humidity where you live, the allergens your skin has quietly decided to flag. The standard advice is "try a few and see what works", which costs around โ‚ฌ40 a bottle and three months of your life per experiment.

Hairook does the matching work for you. Before you buy.

Not another wrapper around ChatGPT.

A lot of "AI" hair apps are a thin coat of paint over a generic chatbot. We're not that. Hairook runs a proprietary scoring algorithm we've spent years tuning against published dermatology research, ingredient databases, and real product formulations. Where AI genuinely helps (reading a label off your phone camera, answering your follow-up questions), we use it. Where it doesn't (telling you what's good for your hair), we don't pretend.

A real scoring engine

Every ingredient is rated for safety, efficacy, compatibility, and quality, then weighted by where it sits on the label (the first five matter most). Not a vibe-check from a chatbot.

Hyper-local

Soft water in Munich vs. hard water in London changes which conditioner you should buy. Most apps stop at the bottle. We factor in your tap water, climate, and lifestyle.

Allergen-first, no exceptions

If a product contains something you've flagged, it's an instant 0%. We don't bury that warning at the bottom of a report. We refuse the product outright.

Works on what's in front of you

Scan a barcode at the store, or photograph the label of a bottle you already own. Even brands we haven't catalogued yet get analyzed on the spot.

What you can actually do with it

Built for your hair, not the average head

Tell us once about your hair type, scalp, allergies, water hardness, and climate. Every score you see after that is calculated against you, not the imagined "everyone".

An honest single number

Each product gets a 0 to 100 match score across four dimensions: Safety (40%), Efficacy (35%), Compatibility (20%), Quality (5%). Tap any score to see exactly why it landed there.

Scan whatever's in front of you

Barcode at the store, label of an old bottle at home. The camera reads the ingredients and the app scores them on the spot, even if we've never seen the product before.

An advisor that actually knows your profile

Ask questions in plain language: "Is this safe for colored hair?", "Why is my scalp itchy in winter?". The chat draws on your profile and our ingredient research, so the answers stay grounded.

Hard "no" on your allergens

If a product contains something you've flagged, it scores zero. Full stop. No fine-print, no rationalising it as "low concentration". You shouldn't have to read the back of every bottle.

The ingredient research, in plain English

Each ingredient has a page: what it does, why it might suit you, where the evidence comes from. No "this contains chemicals" hand-waving, no marketing fluff.

How it actually works

Six steps. The first one takes a couple of minutes. The rest take seconds, every time.

1

Build your profile (once)

Hair type, scalp condition, allergies, the things you care about. We also ask about your tap water and climate, because honestly, they change the answer. You can edit it any time as your hair changes.

2

Search, or just scan

Type a product name, paste a brand, or point the camera at a bottle. We've already catalogued shampoos, conditioners, masks, and styling products from most of the brands you'll find in a drugstore aisle.

3

See the ingredient score

Each product gets a baseline quality score: safety, formulation, anything that should make you pause. This is the same score for everyone, before we layer your profile on top.

4

Then your personal match score

The score becomes yours. Anything in your allergens list pulls it to zero immediately. The rest is a 0 to 100 reflection of how well that particular product fits your hair, scalp, and lifestyle. The higher the number, the safer the basket.

5

Tap to see exactly why

Two simple lists: "Good for you" and "Watch out". Each item links to a plain-language page explaining what the ingredient does, what the evidence says, and why it ended up on that side of the line for you specifically.

6

Ask follow-ups in plain language

"Can I use this with my keratin treatment?" "What's a cheaper alternative that works?" The chat answers using your profile and our ingredient research, so it doesn't drift into "drink more water" generic advice.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes Hairook different from other ingredient scanners?

Most scanners give one score per product, the same number for everyone. Hairook scores ingredients against your profile: hair type, scalp condition, allergies, even water hardness and climate. The exact same shampoo can hit 92% for you and 41% for your roommate. That's the whole point.

How is this not just a ChatGPT wrapper?

The scoring engine is ours. We've spent years building it on top of published dermatology research, ingredient safety databases (CIR, EWG, scientific literature), and real product formulations. Where AI is useful (reading an ingredient list off a photo, answering your follow-up questions), we use it. Where it isn't (deciding what's good for your hair), we use research and a deterministic algorithm. We're transparent about which is which inside the app.

When does Hairook launch?

Public iOS launch is targeted for Q3 2026, with Android shortly after. The private TestFlight beta is rolling out in waves right now. Join the waitlist and you're in the next one.

Is the beta free? Will it stay free?

Beta is 100% free, no card needed. After launch, Hairook has a generous free tier (10 scans a month) plus an optional Premium plan with unlimited scans and the conversational advisor. Beta testers and top referrers earn free Premium months automatically.

What devices does Hairook support?

iOS 15 and up at beta. Android is in active development and ships shortly after public iOS launch. iPad and web are on the roadmap.

How does Hairook handle my data?

We're GDPR-compliant. Everything's encrypted in transit and at rest. You can delete every byte we have on you with one tap. Your profile never leaves your device unencrypted, and we never sell anything to advertisers. Full details in our privacy policy.

How exactly does the referral reward work?

When someone joins through your link, both of you get credit. Three referrals earn you 1 free Premium month, ten earn you 6 months, twenty-five earn lifetime Premium. Rewards are credited automatically to your account when we launch publicly. Self-referrals and disposable emails are filtered.

I joined but lost my referral link. What now?

Sign up again with the same email. We'll return your existing referral code and your current position. Your welcome email also has it.
